Parking fine due to an incorrect zone number or license plate

If you have received a parking fine, it may be because you entered the wrong zone number or license plate in the EasyPark app. This means that parking enforcement was unable to link your payment to your vehicle at the correct location.

Below, you will find information on how this can happen, how to check it, and what you can do.

Why does an incorrect zone number or license plate lead to a fine?

Incorrect zone number entered

  • Each parking zone has a unique number. If you enter the wrong zone number, your parking session will not be correctly registered with the applicable rates for your location.

  • The correct zone number is displayed on the signs near the parking location or on the parking meter.

  • The EasyPark app automatically suggests a parking zone based on your device's GPS network. This depends on your phone’s connection and may be inaccurate if you have weak GPS reception. Always check whether the displayed zone number matches the signs at the parking location.

Incorrect license plate selected

  • If you have multiple vehicles in your EasyPark account, always double-check that you have selected the correct license plate before starting a parking session.

License plate not correctly registered

  • Check in the EasyPark app that your license plate exactly matches the one on your vehicle. A small typo can prevent your payment from being linked to your car, which may result in a fine.

Tip: Entering the wrong license plate is usually not a valid reason for a fine, as you have paid for parking but accidentally registered it under the wrong or incorrect license plate.

What can you do?

1. Check your parking session in the EasyPark app

  • Open the EasyPark app and review the details of your parking session.

  • Verify whether the entered license plate and zone number were correct.

2. Review the information on the fine itself

  • The reason for the fine and the registered license plate are usually listed on the ticket.

  • Compare this information with your parking session in the EasyPark app.

3. Want to dispute the fine?

  • If you can prove that you had an active parking session but made an entry error, you may be able to dispute the fine with the issuing authority.

  • The contact details of the issuing authority are usually listed on the fine.

Note: EasyPark cannot correct an incorrectly entered license plate or zone number once a parking session has started.

How can you prevent this in the future?

✔ Always double-check your zone number and license plate before starting a parking session.
✔ Wait a few seconds to allow GPS to adjust and verify the correct location before starting a parking session.
✔ Use the ‘Vehicles’ feature in the app to easily switch between license plates if needed.
✔ Is everything correct? Confirm your parking session in the EasyPark app.
